What I Offer in My Prenatal Visits
Building on these best practices, here’s what I include in my two prenatal sessions:
Visit 1 – Getting to Know You
Your journey: pregnancy so far, hopes, and fears
Your personal birth preferences and vision
Holistic preparation: comfort techniques, visualization, breathing
Partner role and how they can best support you
Your birth space: hospital, home, or birth centre logistics
Timeline and decision points (when to phone, when to go in)
Visit 2 – Planning & Refining
Dive deeper into your birth plan and paperwork
Discuss pain relief options (medical + natural)
Highlight patient advocacy: policies, informed consent, and choosing interventions only if needed
Comfort measures practice: positions, massage, music, and affirmations
Final logistics: how I’ll support you through labour, during travel, and after birth
Ongoing support between visits via email/text—whether you have a quick question or want to share feelings, I’ll be there between sessions.
What I Offer During Labour
When the big day comes, you won’t be doing it alone.
That said… don’t call me too early!
Labour is often a marathon, not a sprint — and I gently encourage women to ignore early labour for as long as they can. Rest, relax, stay distracted. Then, when you can’t ignore it any longer — that’s the moment to reach out.
I’ll come to your home and join you there.
In the comfort of your own space, I’ll offer:
Comfort measures like massage, pressure points, warm compresses and heat packs
Positioning and movement support to help baby descend and labour progress
Visualization and breath work to help you stay present and centred
Support for your partner, with real-time coaching so they feel empowered and confident being your primary support.
Emotional support and grounding, especially in those big, vulnerable moments
Once active labour is established and you’re ready, I’ll help assess when it’s time to head to the hospital or birth centre. I’ll call ahead, share any key updates (waters breaking, contraction timing, your headspace), and make sure the staff are prepared to welcome you in.
Then…we’ll go in and have a baby!
At the hospital, my focus is on protecting your birth bubble. I’ll help set up your space so it feels calm and safe:
Dimming the lights
Putting on your chosen music or affirmations
Setting up your aromatherapy
Minimising interruptions so you can stay in your zone
I’ll speak with the hospital team on your behalf, sharing your birth preferences and giving them space to ask any clarifying questions — so you can remain undisturbed and supported. If medical intervention is suggested, I’ll walk you through what’s being offered, explain anything you don’t understand, and help you make informed, empowered decisions. I’ll remain beside you with steady, compassionate support, reassuring you every step of the way.
I’ll stay with you through the birth itself and afterwards — helping with first feeds, ensuring you’re nourished, and making sure you and your baby are both well supported before I quietly slip away and leave you in your newborn love bubble.
Home Birth Support
If you’re planning a home birth, I’ll be with you from the very beginning, working alongside your midwife team to create a calm, focused atmosphere. I’ll offer hands-on support through each wave: positioning, massage, breathwork, and emotional reassurance. I’ll help maintain a peaceful space with soft lighting, warmth, aromatherapy, and quiet strength — staying fully present until your baby is safely in your arms and you’re tucked up in bed with your newborn.
Planned or Unplanned Caesarean Support
If your journey includes a c-section, whether planned or unplanned, my role is to ensure you still feel seen, heard, and fully supported. I’ll help you prepare in advance or gently guide you through the shift in plans during labour. I’ll communicate your wishes to the care team, explain what’s happening if needed, and stay grounded beside you or ready for immediate support post-theatre. You’ll never walk through it alone — and I’ll be there to help you settle into the beauty of that first meeting with your baby.
Postnatal Visit
Your birth might be over, but the care doesn’t stop there.
Every family’s post-birth needs are different, especially when there are older siblings in the mix, so I offer a flexible, supportive 2-hour visit tailored entirely to you.
Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, I’ll arrive ready to help however you need:
Cooking a nourishing meal
Folding laundry or tidying the house
Holding your baby while you nap, shower, or just breathe
Entertaining older children so you can enjoy a moment of peace
Offering breastfeeding support or feeding guidance
Providing a safe space to debrief your birth story, no matter how it unfolded
Sometimes it's practical help. Sometimes it's a cup of tea and a conversation with someone who truly gets it. Either way, I’m there to support you and your transition into this new season.
Support can be tailored to include more meals or ongoing, regular support if needed.

FAQs
What does a doula actually do during labour and birth?
A birth doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout labour and birth. I’ll guide your breathing, suggest helpful positions, offer massage and comfort techniques, and advocate for your birth preferences at home or in the hospital. Whether you’re birthing at Hornsby Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital, The San, or Royal North Shore Hospital, I’m by your side to help you feel calm, confident, and safe.
How is a doula different to a midwife or obstetrician?
Unlike a midwife or doctor, a doula doesn’t perform clinical tasks — my role is entirely about your emotional wellbeing, birth experience, and continuity of care. I’m not there to replace your medical team but to work alongside them — supporting you at home, in the car, and in the delivery suite. It’s a holistic, woman-centred role that enhances your natural birth journey, wherever you birth in Sydney, the Northern Beaches or North Shore.
Do you only support natural births or will you work with medicated births or c-sections?
I support all kinds of births — from home births to hospital births, from natural unmedicated labours to planned and unplanned caesareans. My approach is flexible, respectful, and always centred on what you need to feel supported.
When should I book a doula — and how early is too early?
Most families book their doula around 20–28 weeks pregnant, but earlier is wonderful too! Booking early gives us time to build trust, dive into birth prep, and shape your preferences for a powerful and positive birth. I take on a limited number of clients to ensure availability.
How much does a doula cost in Sydney?
Doula services typically range from $2,000 to $5,000, depending on experience and what’s included. My packages start at $3,000, which covers prenatal visits, full labour support, and a postnatal session. I believe deeply in the value of this support and offer transparent pricing with no hidden fees. You can view my Seed, Sprout, and Bloom options in detail above and payment plans are available.
Is hiring a doula worth it?
Evidence shows that women supported by doulas have 25% shorter labours, 39% lower chance of having a caesarean, 60% less chance of needing an epidural, 26% decrease likelihood of instrumental delivery, fewer interventions and overall higher birth satisfaction significantly raised.
If you’re wondering “Is a doula worth it?” — the answer is yes.
